How to Make Yum Nua

Keep in mind that there are many different variations of Yum Nua, but here are the most common ingredients in making this beef salad. When served with fresh vegetables and Thai dressing, it makes the perfect dish for a family gathering.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. High-Quality Sirloin Steak
  • 10 Hot Thai Chili Peppers
  • 1 Head of Lettuce, Bibb or Boston. Or, 1 Heart of Romain Lettuce
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic
  • 5 Tbsps of Thai Fish Sauce
  • 5 Tbsps of Lime Juice
  • 1 Tbsps of Sugar
  • 12 Sprigs of Fresh Mint, Leaves Only
  • 1 Small Cucumber with Seed Removed
  • 3 Sprigs of Cilantro, No Stems
  • 2 Shallots or 1 Red Onion Sliced Thin

You are very welcome to add other spices, herbs, or ingredients to the salad to make it even more savoury.

Preparing the Meal:

Now that you have your ingredients, making Yum Nua is not difficult and time-consuming at all.

The first step is to boil or grill the steak until it is medium rare and trim off any fat. Once prepared, you’ll need to cool it down and slice it into thin pieces about 2” across and 1/8” thick.

Prepare the chilis, fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, and garlic and mix them in a small bowl. You can layer it with the sliced meat and add the shallots and cucumbers. Here, you can add more fish sauce for additional flavouring in accordance with your preference and taste.

On a plate, create a bed of lettuce and place the mixture on top. At the end, garnish it with cilantro and now it is ready to serve.
