The Love of Chilies and Thai Dishes!

Thai food has been our favourite here in London for as long as one can remember and so it is important to find the perfect Thai restaurant to go to on the weekend with family and friends. However, it is also important to know the basics of Thai food in order to have a wonderful meal and to also know how to find the best restaurant deals in London. One of the major things to know about Thai is the use of spices and chillies. After all, Thai food is known for its amazing balance of spicy, sour and sweet tastes which leaves your taste buds with a flavour that leaves you craving for more.

There are a number of spices used while making Thai food, whether you are making it at home or visiting a restaurant like Thai Square, which was initially just the Strand restaurant but the chain is now widely spread around London. The experienced Thai chefs use fresh ingredients and spicy pastes which are a speciality of Thai food – they take a lot of time to prepare, but the result is worth it.

The most important type of spice used is the range of different chillies that undergo several preparation techniques in order for you to have that incredible taste. One of them is called the bird chilli, which is the smallest and the spiciest. These chillies are used frequently in Thai dishes to give it that famous spicy kick and heat that is the basis of Thai food. Bird chillies, also known as “phrik khi nu” are widely used to make Thai sauces which are to be served with main courses.

Another type of chilli that goes into the making of Thai food is most commonly known as cayenne. They are a key ingredient for Thai curries. Cayenne chilli has been one of the main weapons of the chefs at Thai restaurants to win your hearts and to make those amazing dishes that we cannot stop thinking about.

Thanks to the chillies in Thai dishes that are prepared in such a unique way that when you visit Thai restaurants, you cannot wait to go there just to order the same dish over and over again. Without these spices and fresh chillies that are used in the process, Thai cooking just would not be the same.

Another point to be taken into consideration about Thai food is that the use of chillies was not done in the initial at the dawn of this cuisine. People used black pepper to create the heat and hotness in Thai food, and it was only after the arrival of chillies back in 16th Century when Thai food was given the blessing of chilli and Thai chefs used it innovatively to serve up the best of its qualities in mouth-watering dishes. This also tells us how Thai food is open to change and hence is in itself not just simple food, but a form of art.
