Things to Do in Windsor

If you are planning a trip to Windsor, you will find that there are plenty of things to do in this amazing London suburb. Home to Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British Royal Family, Windsor is arguably the best representation of England.

Let’s take a look at what you can do in this historic English town.

Windsor Castle

For more than a millennium, Windsor Castle has stood. It is the largest and oldest castle that is currently inhabited in the world. If you see the royal standard flying, that means the Queen is at home. If you plan your trip around the castle or the Royal Ascot, you may catch a glimpse of the Queen herself.  Otherwise, you can take a guided tour of the castle’s famous Round Tower and see much of the countryside from the top.

Eton College

Arguably the most famous of all schools, Eton College is a sight to behold. Founded in 1440, this college graduated the likes of Prince William and Harry, along with former Prime Minister David Cameron and some notable actors like Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston.

Royal Ascot

The Royal Ascot offers Hurdles and Chase events for horse racing that must be seen to be believed. You will need to dress in your finest to blend in with the crowd, but it is well worth it to see the pageantry in the race events. Since 1711, races have been held at this location. However, if you cannot make it during that time of the year, you can always check out the Royal Windsor Racecourse which is next to Windsor Castle.

Great Park

More than 5,000 acres and home to about 600 deer, this is an amazing park which is managed by the Crown Estate. You can see the ancient oaks that have stood for many hundreds of years witnessing English history in the passing. Plus, you can take the Long Walk and get some incredible pictures of the remarkable scenery that is found in this remarkable setting.

Boating on the Thames

A time-honoured tradition in Windsor is paddling down the Thames by boat. There are kayak tours available that let you rent a boat for paddling. Or, you can visit the famed Eton College Boat Club practices during the spring and summer.

As part of your trip, do not forget to do some research on the best restaurants in the area, where you can sample the local delicacies.
