Craving For Desserts; Try Thai!

If you thought Thai food is only about curries, chicken, rice and spice… let us prove you wrong with these Thai desserts that have swooned Apple pie loving Americans, Mochi crazy Japanese, Crème Brulee obsessed French and Red Velvet cake swooned Londoners.

Thai Kingdom may not have many sweet delights which are as popular as their Pad Thai or Green/Red Curry; yet Thai desserts are something not to be missed at all. So let’s start –

1. Classic Thai Mango Sticky Rice Pudding – KhaoNiaowMamuang

Who can resist the delightful Mangoes lying on top of sweet sticky rice. The tempting saga continues as this dessert comes covered in coconut cream syrup. No wonder, KhaoNeowMamuangis a favourite with people having sweet tooth.

2. Sweet Sticky Rice Wrapped in Banana Husks – Khaoniewbing

The best thing about Thai food is its focus on fruits and vegetables. When you order salty delights, you can see a lot of exotic vegetables in your choice of curry. Similarly, Thai people put a lot of fruits in their desserts. This one comes wrapped up in banana leaves, and is grilled over a fire before being served.

3. Coconut Ice Cream – I-dtim Mat Phrao

Known as I-dtim mat phrao, whereby I-dtim stands for ‘ice cream’,this is one of the yummiest and heathiest ice-creams of the world made with coconut milk rather than cow’s milk. In the streets of Bangkok, this ice-cream is eaten wedged between a folded piece of white bread and rightly called ‘ice cream sandwich’.

4. Sticky Rice in Bamboo – Khao Lam

Even though you will find myriad type of Thai desserts on the concept of sticky rice, this one is really different as the sticky rice is sweetened with black beans and thick coconut syrup. The dessert will be served after it is roasted in bamboo poles over low fire.

5. Flower Egg Yolk Tart (Tong Yip)

We have saved the best one for the last! The dessert is made by boiling egg yolk, sugar, and flower water in sugar syrup. This syrup is then formed into flower like shapes. There are other variations also of egg-yolk based desserts like Tong Yord (in the shape of round balls) and Foi Tong which is shredded Egg Yolk tart.

If you are already feeling a sweet craving, Thai Square Restaurant is the place where you can try all this and much more.
