Top 6 Tips For Cooking Healthy Thai Cuisine

Thai cuisine is full of succulent flavours, textures and colours but there’s also another element of our food that makes it that more special. That element is how incredibly healthy our dishes are for you. That is why, here at Thai Square Restaurant we’re sharing some of our tips on how to cook your favourite Thai dish without feeling guilty.

1. Use Fresh and Organic Ingredients

Using fresh and organic ingredients not only benefits our health as they’re filled with amazing nutrients, but they also add better flavour to our dishes as opposed to others. They’re completely free from neurotoxins often seen in pesticides which can be damaging to the brain and cells, making it a much better option.

2. Herbs

Thai cuisine uses herbs in almost every single dish, they add that extra touch and make your food taste sensational. One of our favourites is lemongrass, it’s actually used in some medicines to cure stomach ache or vomiting. Another we use widely in our cuisine is mint, it helps deal with bloating and allows the digestive system to work effectively.

3. Natural Sweeteners

A great tip we have for you, is to use natural sweeteners rather than those packed with chemicals. Try swapping your white sugar to coconut sugar or palm sugar. Not only will it add a much deeper flavour to your meal but it’s low in GI, which makes this a healthier alternative.

4. Fish Sauce

Fish sauce is huge in Thai cuisine because of it’s incredible flavour. You should try using this over salt as it’ll pack that punch you’re looking for. Fish sauce is filled with protein and is packed with various vitamins and minerals. It is often made from anchovies and sardines which are great sources of Omega 3.

5. Grilled Over Fried

Grilling food is so much healthier for you as you aren’t using oil, this also makes it less saturated. When you’re frying food, it absorbs some of the fat which makes it incredibly unhealthy for you. Excess amounts of fat could lead to heart complications, try grilling instead as the fat will fall away from what you’re cooking, making it a much healthier option.

6. Spices

This has been a huge topic of conversation in recent years but with much research, it’s now safe to say that spices are incredibly healthy for you. It is a huge part of Thai cuisine and definitely what makes some of our dishes so special. Dried red peppers which we commonly use, lower the risk of blood and colon cancer. Nutmeg has anti-bacterial properties and it also helps to fight off E coli and salmonella. Lastly, another popular spice in Thai cuisine is ginger. It helps relieve heartburn, bloating and sickness, as well as many other digestive symptoms.
